Street Art in the Heart of Bloordale at Toronto’s BIG on Bloor Arts and Culture Festival

July 22, 2017 marks the 10th anniversary of Toronto’s BIG on Bloor Festival and organizers are celebrating the occasion as they always do, with over 200 artist showcases, installations, performances, and food and drink booths. Last year BIG on Bloor earned its title with 100,000 visitors.

The Bloor Improvement Group (BIG) was formed as a coalition organization, which includes local groups, government, social services, residents, cultural institutions, artists and small business owners. In a coordinated effort, these organizations have come together to find ways to celebrate the neighbourhood’s rich diversity by highlighting the work of the creative class. The festival was conceived of as a platform to showcase local talent with an aim to draw new business and residents to the Bloordale area.

In celebration of the neighbourhood’s vibrant music scene, the festival will house local musicians on the Celebrate Here main stage and buskers and bands will be scattered throughout the bars and street corners of Bloordale.

Savour Bloor will also be present at the festival, showcasing an array of foods. East African, South Asian, Somali, Caribbean, Japanese, Portuguese, Chinese, Mexican, Italian and Canadian cuisine will all be available. And local restaurants and bars will be extending their patios for the event.

Two new additions to this year’s schedule are the BIG Mural showcase and BIG X. BIG X will stage innovative sculptures and performance art and live painting exhibitions by over 20 local artists.

BIG on Bloor takes over Bloor from Dufferin to Lansdowne, July 22 and 23. Come hungry for culture. For more information visit: http://bigonbloorfestival.com/
